Attractions from island Pag
The island of Pag is one of the biggest Adriatic islands with its 270 km of sand and stone shore full of capes and gulfs. The island is long, low and rocky. The scarce flora consists mainly of low plants and grass. The climate is mediterranian.
Town of Pag is situated on the south-west of the island and it can be seen from the main road from Žigljen/Novalja.
Town of Pag has moved several times in history. Until the end of the 4th century A.D. the town (then named Caska) was situated on the north-west of the Gulf of Pag. The town sank into the sea during an earthquake and people built a new town on the area, today known as Stari grad ("the old town").
The town as we know today was established in the middle ages on the area once known as the Katena bay ("the chain bay"). The town is full of cultural and arhitectural monuments and sights from that era. Some of them are shown below.
In the very centre of the town there's a Church of St. Mary's Assumption. Townspeople celebrate the holiday on August 15th.
The salt production was the main reason for the development of the town in 15th century. On the brink of the town centre you can still see the salt warehouses. In one of the abbandoned buildings there's a disco club.
The town centre can also be seen from apartmentsVilla Marija.
Today town of Pag is touristically developed town which can offer entertainment, cultural and sport activities to relax and enjoy your vacation. You can choose from several sports courts (bowling, tennis, beach volley..), restaurants, pizza places, local taverns, cyber caffe...
In the town you can choose from numerous restaurants with typical mediterranian food. In the evening you can dance to the rhythms of dalmatian music in the streets; if you prefer modern rhythms the disco in the abbandoned salt warehouse is the right choice. The children also get their turn as the luna park starts to operate.
The island of Pag is also famous for its carnival. The winter carnival begins on the first saturday after the St. three kings and lasts until the Ash-wednesday. During this period performances and dances are held in hotels and restaurants. The summer festival occurs on July 27th and is held mainly for tourists.
The island of Pag is full of unusual forms, wild exotics, fine beaches and bays and other natural beauties.
You can admire the Velebit mountain range from Villa Marija
On the island there are some ornithological parks, hunting and free-climbing areas and cultural monuments. There is a variety of diving and sailing clubs. Not far from the ferry port Žigljen there is the famous Pag triangle. You can visit nearby islands by organized excursions and boat trips.
